Earlier this week, we launched The KES Group. Bringing together King Edward VI School, KES Preparatory in Romsey and Prince’s Mead in Winchester and establishing a KES education as the home of exceptional education in Hampshire. Today, we’ve been marking that moment in a special way. A time capsule, shaped by voices from across our community, past and present with letters and photographs from each of our Heads, alongside messages from pupil leaders and pupil voice groups, written directly to future generations, sharing their hopes for the schools and the opportunities they believe lie ahead. To be opened in 2053, when KES will celebrate 500 years of educating children, it marks a moment of real significance. Honouring a remarkable heritage while reaffirming our commitment to shaping confident young people for an ever‑changing world.
Alongside members of our current school community, we were delighted to welcome back Maurice Rowles (KES 56-64) to represent the OE community. Maurice has contributed a written piece to the time capsule about his memories of KES in the 1950s and 1960s.
