Derek Edmond (KES 61-67) died in January this year after a battle with cancer.  Derek's drumming talent and enthusiasm saw him leave KES in the Sixth Form to pursue his dream of rock stardom when he was offered a contract with MGM; the then Head, Dr LJ Stroud, advising him that this was was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and that he could always return to his studies later.  This decision led him to play at some of the most iconic stadiums around the world with musicians such as Jimi Hendrix and Rod Stewart and bands such as The Troggs, Jeff Beck and Rory Gallagher - living his dream for 4 years.  Thereafter, Derek pursued a successful career in accountancy finishing as Finance Services Director of Whitbread before retiring at 50.
