John Edwin Sutton (KES 60-68)

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that John Edwin Sutton (KES 60-68) succumbed to complications from mesothelioma on 3rd June, 2026.

Born and raised in Southampton, John attended King Edward's before attaining his Master's degree in Mathematics from The Queen’s College, University of Oxford. He spent his 40 year career working as an actuary in the reinsurance industry in Folkestone, London and Bermuda. On retiring for the second time in 2014, he became a volunteer driver at the Shepway Volunteer Center. As was his pattern of community service over the years, he went on to serve first as Treasurer and then Chair of the Trustees for Kent Coast Volunteering until earlier this year. A rugby enthusiast, John was deeply proud of his 100% kicking record; his singular attempt, and success, coming for the school third team from the touch-line in torrential wind and rain - all while on the mend from injury! A long-time member and player, he was also a former Chairman of Folkestone Rugby Football Club.

He leaves behind his wife, Ruth, and three daughters, by whom he will be sorely missed.  Details of the funeral arrangements will follow.
