Sophie Englyst (KES 16-21) discovered her passion for photography by joining the KES Photography Club, run by Mr Robinson, in Year 7.  Even today, years later, art still plays a huge part in Sophie's life and she still makes time to be creative alongside her job as a research scientist and her role as a mental health advocate.

After leaving college, Sophie received a grant to further explore her art practice. She used the money to create a photography/poetry book called ‘Like a swan’ based on her own experiences with mental health. She has since distributed her book to local charities and services to raise awareness and help others feel less alone. 

Sophie has had eight art exhibitions, generating a hugely positive response and engagement from different communities. She has also facilitated creative workshops, including a series celebrating Jane Austen’s 250th birthday and a county-wide series of events delivered to hundreds of LGBTQ+ young people, resulting in a powerful exhibition at The John Hansard Gallery.  More of Sophie's work can be viewed at @sophotography05_
