The OE golfers narrowly missed out on a win in the annual Triangular golf match against the Old Symondians and Old Tauntonians this year.
Captain, Nick Creal, got off to a fast start racing up the valley at Hockley 1 under par, until he was pegged back by his opponents to suffer 2 defeats. However, veteran player David Creal, took advantage of the running fairways to defeat both of his opponents to level the scores after 2 matches. Guy Bewick made use of the large number of shots he was getting and returned to form to pick up his customary 2 points, whilst, late call up and débutant, Pete Bull, secured a double victory that extended the OE lead. Former Deputy Head, Rob Putt, used all his experience to win 2 more points but the Old Symondians kept sneaking the third point in the games to stay in the running - this was crucial, with the score after 5 matches being 8-5-2. Andrew McNaught picked up a point when the Old Tauntonians withdrew with illness but found it tricky against an OS veteran who closed the gap. Debutant and, soon to retire, Richard Cross fought valiantly but the Old Symondians' captain secured both points but on the final green the Old Tauntonians stole what proved to be a decisive point. Paul Fairley took care of his OT opponent in devastating fashion but his OS opponent did the same thing. This, unfortunately, meant that he therefore lost on the 17th green to give the OS side the overall match victory with the final score being 10-11-3.
OEs of all ages and abilities are invited to join with others for the remaining events of the season. For more information, please email Nick Creal on squealer13@yahoo.com
