Our Boundless Futures Giving Campaign is about creating brighter futures. Alongside our fundraising for bursaries, we have set an ambitious goal around volunteering. We would like 500 volunteers to give their time to help KES pupils by 2030.
This year, the School has, for the first time, appointed a Head of Futures, Mrs Sparkes. Alongside her teaching role, Mrs Sparkes is developing an exciting programme designed to get our pupils thinking about their future from Year 7 onwards.
Mrs Sparkes said: “At King Edward’s, alongside providing leading teaching for our pupils, we want to open their eyes to the many possibilities that lie ahead in the future. We are keen to include as many voices as possible from a range of industries and pathways in our provision, including Old Edwardians. If you have a story to share with our young people, I would love to hear from you.”
If you would like to get involved: please register your interest in volunteering HERE and add your industry experience to your profile on the KES Alumni Hub. Knowing about your career will mean we can contact you when a good opportunity arises. Please also fill out our Careers Snapshot form HERE - it consists of 5 short questions. We share these with our pupils throughout the year to give them a sense of the varied career paths former pupils have taken.
Jenny Swinn (KES 2005-2012) reflects on her experience volunteering at KES: “I really enjoy returning to KES and meeting the current students and staff. There are always familiar faces around and it’s great to see any changes. The KES community, as ever, is always welcoming and enthusiastic. It is great to feel that through volunteering I can contribute to the current students’ perspectives in a small way. I encourage all alumni to get involved. It is very rewarding and great fun.”
Together, we made a great start towards reaching our goal of 500 volunteers by 2030, with 67 OEs volunteering in 2024-25. We can’t wait to see the valuable lessons our pupils take from the careers programme this year.
