Tom Newsom recently took part in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. The Clipper Race is a 40,000 mile race, around the world, on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht. Tom was the AQP (additional qualified person) on board 'Our Isles and Oceans'. The role of AQP is a prestigious one and, as a highly skilled sailor, Tom was known as ‘First Mate’, and worked closely with his Skipper, utilising his extensive sailing experience and supporting the goals of the team - not only with the objective of gaining results on the podium, but applying his knowledge to help create a competent, safe and competitive race team. After an exhausting but exhilarating 326 days, 40,000nm, six oceans and six continents Tom and his crew finished in a fantastic 7th place.
