I joined KES in year 8 and, although I left in 2020 as I won an academic scholarship for a leading regional boarding school for my 6th form years. I feel I gained so much from KES, not only in terms of academics but also friends I made for life and teachers who consistently encouraged, supported and challenged me. In particular, my lifelong love for languages was nurtured at KES where I studied French and Spanish all the way through. Today, I am studying French, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian at Trinity College, Cambridge. I was lucky to be nominated for Trinity's exchange with the École Normale Supérieure after my first year exams, so I am studying in France in the beautiful city of Lyon for my year abroad.
As well as pursuing my degree, I have also begun working as a translator. Most recently, I translated a biography of an influential but understudied Hollywood actress and writer from Spanish into Swedish. This was the first time a book by this writer was translated into my mother tongue so I'm very proud to have played a role in making this possible. The project allowed me to combine my language skills with my interest in acting and art, interests that were nurtured at KES both in the classroom and onstage where I participated in school productions and the annual dance gala twice. I am still in touch with a number of girls I met during these productions, which is a testament to KES's ability to create moments bringing the school community together. I have been able to pursue these interests in the Cambridge theatre scene and I had the chance to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe which was an incredible experience for me, but my confidence on stage came from my time at KES.
In the future I would like to use my languages to pursue either acting or diplomacy, as I set up the Cambridge Diplomatic Society in my first year of my studies and also set up and continue to run a girls' education initiative to support girls around the world who are out of school. I know that, whichever direction my future career takes me, the confidence, connections and work ethic KES instilled in me will accompany me on my way.
